Teacher Mission: Put Vegan Creamer in Your Teacher’s Lounge
Teachers lead busy lives—and when your job entails managing a classroom full of youngsters, your morning coffee (and midmorning coffee … and afternoon coffee …) is your partner in crime. ☕ And you’re obviously working to make sure your lessons are humane, so it’s important to make sure your cup of coffee isn’t supporting cruelty, either—and you can do that by avoiding dairy milk and creamers.
Why is this important? Because cows in the dairy industry are treated like nothing more than milk machines. They’re forcibly and artificially inseminated, and their beloved calves are torn away from them within hours each time they give birth. They’re bred—and sometimes pumped full of hormones—to produce 4.5 times the amount of milk that they’d produce naturally. Instead of nursing their babies, mother cows are hooked up to painful milking machines several times a day. They’re forced to live in cramped, filthy conditions, often surrounded by their own waste. Once they reach 4 or 5 years old and their milk production wanes, they’re sent to slaughter. There is no excuse for this kind of cruelty.
Using vegan creamer in your coffee is a small but important act of protest against the cruel dairy industry in which millions of cows suffer every year. This easy switch is not only beneficial to your health but also lifesaving for cows—and there are so many delicious options to choose from that you’re bound to find some to suit your tastes.
But don’t stop with your own cup of joe! Give your fellow educators the opportunity to make compassionate changes for animals in their life, too, by donating some vegan creamer to your teacher’s lounge for everyone to try. Set it out next to the coffee in the morning, or put a note on it indicating that others should feel free to try it. Sometimes, all it takes is an opportunity to try something new for someone to make a change. By bringing vegan creamer to share with colleagues, you’ll be helping to change minds and spreading a bit of post-holiday cheer.
To thank you, we’re giving away an exclusive FREE TeachKind lanyard to the first 10 teachers who send us a picture of the vegan creamer that they’ve donated to their teacher’s lounge! These super-cute, limited-edition TeachKind items are the perfect way to show your pride for humane education.
Here’s what to do:
- Choose a vegan creamer. There are lots of options (such as ones made from soy, almond, or coconut milk or even pea protein), and they’re easy to find in almost any grocery store. Check out this list of a wide variety of options.
- Bring the creamer to your teacher’s lounge, and let your coworkers know that it’s there for them to try. Be sure to mention that by leaving cow’s milk out of their coffee, they will be doing great things for their health and won’t be supporting cruelty to animals.
- Snap a pic of the vegan creamer in the teacher’s lounge and send it to us. The first 10 teachers who e-mail us a picture of the creamer that they’ve placed in their teacher’s lounge will receive a FREE TeachKind lanyard. Want some leaflets about the dairy industry to share, too? Let us know in your e-mail and we’ll send you some for free.
E-mail the photo to us at [email protected] with the subject line “Vegan Creamer.” Please also include your full name and mailing address.
Good luck!
