Taking a Message of Kindness to Cuban Schools

It had been more than 50 years since a U.S. airline last flew to Cuba’s capital, but recently, PETA activists were on board! Their mission? Spreading the message of kindness to animals. In addition to handing out vegan starter kits, putting on eye-catching demonstrations to help animals, and providing local groups with veterinary supplies, these activists devoted time to delivering much-beloved Share the World humane-education packs to local animal-rescue groups and schools.

With an array of materials in hand from TeachKind, the activists also visited the International School of Havana, a Havana-area elementary school, to deliver an important message in a school presentation: As schools face an epidemic of violence and bullying, it’s never been more important that students learn the value of compassion and empathy when interacting with each other and the animals around them. The presentation was a hit, with many of the 160 students eager to ask questions and share their ideas about ways to help animals. School officials are excited to continue working with PETA and TeachKind on methods to promote kindness to all living beings.

The school’s motto is “Making a Difference,” so it was the perfect setting in which to convey Share the World’s values of kindness, compassion, and anti-bullying to students in an easy-to-understand, age-appropriate manner—and, no surprise, the kids adored the video and its fun, relatable stories about animals.
