Flower – Cat Healing From Gunshot Wounds Finds Best Friend in Little Girl
Flower’s former owner didn’t allow him indoors and told PETA that he likely had been hit by a car and shot. His owner asked PETA to neuter him, and when we took him for his surgery, we discovered that this charming boy had gunshot wounds that had never been tended to as well as an infection on his foot. He was given to PETA and received veterinary care, and he quickly recovered and revealed his full personality. A loving family from Virginia saw an adoption ad for him—then named him Flower. The family was looking for a companion for their other rescued cat, but little did they know that an adorable relationship would begin between Flower and their 3-year-old daughter, Hannah (who chose his new name). Now, the two are inseparable.
What You Can Do
Keep your cats safely indoors, away from predators, diseases, speeding cars, and cruel people. Urge friends and family members to adopt from an animal shelter. Work within your community to legislate mandatory spaying and neutering, and if you know people who are hesitant to have animals “fixed,” remind them that spaying or neutering is the key to addressing the homeless-animal overpopulation crisis—and offer to help by scheduling an appointment or providing transportation.
