Ahead of the holiday shopping storm, Park Meadows mall is refusing to run a PETA ad featuring an adorable lamb named Percy soaking up the love from vegan model Liz Turner, on the grounds that it would seem “unsupportive” of its wool-selling retailers.

“How about supporting a gentle lamb’s right to be himself, not a piece of clothing?” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “This cowardly decision blocks PETA from nudging shoppers toward cozy vegan pieces that spare animals’ lives.”

PETA’s most recent wool-industry exposé—the sixth exposé of the wool industry in Australia, which produces 88% of the world’s supply for apparel—reveals that workers punched sheep in the face, kicked them, cut off swaths of their flesh, and left many with bleeding wounds. Data from the Higg Materials Sustainability Index show that because of the greenhouse-gas emissions created during its production, wool is much worse for the environment than its vegan counterparts.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
