The competition this year was hotter than ever, but rapper Waka Flocka Flame and social media influencer Andrea Russett have been crowned the Hottest Vegetarian Celebrities of 2016 by peta2, PETA’s youth division. Vine star Nash Grier and Tonight Alive singer Jenna McDougall nabbed honorable mentions as this year’s runners-up.
In a video for VICE’s food series, Munchies, Waka Flocka Flame shows fans how to bake vegan blueberry muffins while discussing why he ditched meat and dairy foods: “I just didn’t want to be fat. I got tired of breathing hard. I got tired of my joints hurting.” The rapper mentions quinoa, kale, and walnuts as some of his favorite protein sources and says that his meals fuel him better than the animal-based foods that his friends eat. “When I eat, I got energy,” he says. “When they eat, they be sleeping.”
In addition to promoting vegan meals, Waka Flocka Flame has encouraged kindness to animals through two peta2 campaigns: an “Ink, Not Mink” ad protesting fur and an anti-cruelty ad that reads, “Only Cowards Abuse Animals.”
Internet personality Russett went vegan as a New Year’s resolution last year. She enjoys sharing delicious, animal-friendly dishes with her followers, such as avocado toast and cauliflower wings with creamy, dairy-free ranch dipping sauce, both of which nabbed 125,000 likes.
Previous winners of peta2’s Hottest Vegetarian Celebrity contest include Ariana Grande, Zendaya, The Wanted’s Jay McGuiness, Mindless Behavior’s Princeton, and Fall Out Boy’s Andy Hurley.
