After hearing from PETA and more than 13,000 of its members and supporters about the cruel ways pythons and other reptiles are killed for their skin, watch brand Bulova—which is owned by industry giant Citizen Watch Company—confirmed to the group that it no longer buys new reptile skins for its products.
“Every watchband made from a snake’s or a crocodile’s skin is stitched with the suffering of a thinking, feeling being who didn’t want to die,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA applauds Bulova for this compassionate move and urges Grand Seiko, Harry Winston, and OMEGA to follow suit.”
PETA entities have documented that workers on reptile farms electroshock crocodiles, sever their spinal cords with a metal blade, bash snakes over the head with hammers, and pump them full of water to loosen their skin before it’s peeled off—often while they’re still conscious.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
