In a push for America’s heartland to have a heart for animals, on Tuesday, a nearly nude volunteer with PETA will lie in a “trussed-up” pose on a cutting board beside two giant “turkey carcasses.” The downtown display will be the latest action in PETA’s “ThanksVegan” tour through the Midwest, which asks that everyone celebrate with a vegan feast.

When:    Tuesday, November 16, 12 noon

Where:    At the intersection of 11th Street and S. Main Avenue, Sioux Falls

“When people realize that turkeys love their families, feel pain and fear, and value their lives, they’re eager to put a Tofurky on the table,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA offers recipes, shopping tips, and more on its website so that everyone can enjoy a delicious ThanksVegan meal that leaves gentle birds in peace.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
