She’s a fearless animal rights activist and purveyor of cruelty-free beauty products—and now, Spring resident Dani Alexander is PETA’s 2018 Sexiest Vegan Next Door. She beat out contestants from across the U.S. to nab the title, which comes with a vacation for two to Maui, Hawaii, courtesy of Humane Travel.
Alexander’s journey toward animal advocacy began three years ago, when she watched Forks Over Knives after giving birth to her son. She was inspired to go vegan and has never looked back—this year alone, she’s organized 50 events for animals and has offered countless clients discounts on her expert cruelty-free skin-care and vegan nutrition services. Although she’s recently been threatened by internet trolls for protesting the Houston rodeo and faces charges for allegedly trespassing at a slaughterhouse desperate to keep its horrific abuses under wraps, Alexander refuses to back down.
“It’s no surprise that people who bully animals don’t think twice about bullying anyone who stands up for them,” she says. “The only antidote for cruelty is compassion, which is why I’ll never stop defending the animals who suffer in slaughterhouses, rodeos, and everywhere else they’re abused.”
“With her huge heart and courageous spirit, Dani Alexander is a hero for animals through and through,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA encourages anyone who’s inspired by her vitality, compassion, and moral character to give going vegan a try.”
Las Vegas police officer David Anthony is this year’s male winner. PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—selected the winners based on several factors, including vote count. See the full contest details here.
