Two sexy PETA “pilgrims” are taking to downtown Albany on Tuesday—decked in high heels and anything-but-puritanical garb—to hand out free vegan Tofurky roasts to passersby and urge caring people to sit down to a delicious, healthy holiday meal that no one had to die for.

Where:           At the intersection of S. Pearl and State streets, Albany

When:             Tuesday, November 24, 12 p.m.

“It’s easier than ever to give turkeys something to be thankful for just by choosing a tasty vegan holiday roast that’s packed with protein and flavor,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA hopes kind people everywhere will choose to celebrate the holidays without causing suffering this year.”

Why have PETA’s “pilgrims” traded in their muskets for a meat-free feast? As noted by PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—in their natural environment, turkeys are protective and loving parents as well as spirited explorers who can climb trees and run as fast as 18 miles per hour. But most who are raised to be killed for food are crammed into filthy warehouses, where disease, smothering, and heart attacks are common. Turkeys are drugged and bred to grow such unnaturally large upper bodies that their legs often become crippled under their own weight.
