‘Rat’ to Crash University of Delaware Board Meeting Over Cruel Experiments
PETA Protest Will Call on School’s President to Stop Tania Roth From Tormenting Any More Baby Rats

What: Thursday’s University of Delaware Board of Trustees meeting will have an unusual attendee: a giant PETA “rat,” who will lead protesters in urging university President Dennis Assanis to put an end to experimenter Tania Roth’s cruel “child abuse” studies on baby rats. Demonstrators will hold signs proclaiming, “Tania Roth Abuses Babies” and “President Assanis: Stop Wasting UD $$ on Cruel Rat Experiments.”

Where: At the intersection of New London Road and David Hollowell Drive, Newark
PETA notes that since 2000, Roth has spent nearly $2 million in public funds tormenting rats in psychologically distressing and painful experiments that have failed to produce a single treatment for abused children. She has injected baby rats with opioids and force-fed them alcohol, stuffed pregnant mothers into tiny restraint tubes and blasted them with strobe lights, and electrically shocked infant rats. She has separated baby rats from their mothers and placed them with traumatized foster mothers who were ill equipped to care for them and instead dragged, dropped, and neglected them. Roth’s findings have contradicted each other.
“Tania Roth has spent nearly two decades and millions of dollars abusing rats in useless tests, and enough is enough,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “PETA is calling on President Assanis to step up, say ‘no more,’ and close Roth’s laboratory.”
PETA will also hold protests against Roth’s experiments during Parents and Family Weekend on October 12 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. outside the Perkins Student Center, located at 325 Academy St., and during Homecoming on October 27 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 601 South College Ave., near Delaware Stadium.
