Armed with large photos of injured turkeys and signs declaring, “Bring Abusers to Justice” and “Prosecute Cruelty to Animals,” a coalition of PETA supporters will rally outside Franklin County District Attorney (D.A.) Matthew Fogal’s office on Friday. The action comes 11 months after PETA provided Pennsylvania State Police with video evidence of workers at Plainville Farms suppliers across southern Pennsylvania—including in Franklin County—kicking, stomping on, beating, throwing, and mock-raping turkeys, in addition to abusing them in other ways.
When: Friday, July 8, 12 noon
Where: Franklin County D.A.’s Office, 157 Lincoln Way E., Chambersburg
“The turkeys at Plainville are protected under the law, just as dogs and cats are, yet they were left convulsing in agony on the floor after being abused on camera,” says PETA Vice President of Evidence Analysis Daniel Paden. “PETA looks to the D.A. to file charges and hold these abusers accountable for cruelly mistreating these turkeys.”
The group will lead a series of similar rallies this week at D.A. offices across the area, including in Carlisle, McConnellsburg, New Bloomfield, and West Chester.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
