Even though 47% of Americans want to incorporate more vegan foods into their meals, Prince’s Hot Chicken still doesn’t have a vegan entrée on its menu, so this morning, dancer Mayte Garcia sent the Nashville staple’s owner a letter on PETA’s behalf encouraging her to honor another Prince—Garcia’s late ex-husband—by introducing a vegan sandwich.
“Prince, who, of course, performed in Nashville many times throughout his career, was a dedicated animal rights advocate, a vegan, and an enthusiastic foodie,” writes Garcia. “I know vegans and nonvegans alike would line up for the chance to try a Prince’s Hot Chicken vegan offering, and I’d be delighted if you would consider doing this in his name to demonstrate that his gentle, playful, compassionate spirit lives on in your unique city.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram.
Garcia’s letter to André Prince Jeffries, owner of Prince’s Hot Chicken, follows.

Prince’s Hot Chicken
Dear Ms. Jeffries:
I understand that Prince’s Hot Chicken is a Nashville staple. My friends and I at PETA have an idea that we believe would enhance the restaurant’s legacy while celebrating the musical heart of Nashville. We would love to see you add a vegan item to the menu in honor of someone who shares your family name: Prince.
Prince, who, of course, performed in Nashville many times throughout his career, was a dedicated animal rights advocate, a vegan, and an enthusiastic foodie. I know vegans and nonvegans alike would line up for the chance to try a Prince’s Hot Chicken vegan offering, and I’d be delighted if you would consider doing this in his name to demonstrate that his gentle, playful, compassionate spirit lives on in your unique city. PETA stands ready to help you identify companies to work with.
Thank you for your consideration.
Warm regards,
Mayte Garcia
