Prince was royalty to PETA. He donated his pro-vegan song “Animal Kingdom” to PETA, partied with us in 2005 at our Millennium Gala, and was named our Sexiest Vegetarian in 2006. He spoke out and sang against abusing and killing animals for food and clothing, including by serving a gourmet vegan meal to reporters and blasting the wool industry in his liner notes for Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, in which he appeared in a faux-wool jacket: “If this jacket were real wool, it would have taken 7 lambs whose lives would have begun like this … Within weeks of their birth, their ears would have been hole-punched, their tails chopped off and the males would have been castrated while fully conscious.” Prince’s legacy of compassion and creativity will live on, and he will be sorely missed.
PETA’s motto is that “animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way,” and more information about Prince’s work to help animals is available on PETA.org.
