On Thursday, PETA and Chicago Alliance for Animals supporters will descend on Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago with “dead dogs” and suitcases sporting a spoof “Millhellium” logo to decry the company’s sponsorship of the Iditarod dog-sled race, in which more than 150 dogs have died.
When: Thursday, February 10, 12 noon
Where: Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago, 163 E. Walton Pl., Chicago
“This much-despised race forces dogs to cross nearly 1,000 miles of icy terrain in biting winds in just two weeks, running some animals to their deaths,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is calling on Millennium Hotels and Resorts to check out of the Iditarod’s cruelty to dogs by ending its sponsorship of the race.”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
