Bath and Beauty Retailers Prove That Compassion Is Always in Fashion

As young people’s interest in animal rights rises, so does their desire for beauty products that were never tested on animals. And to honor those businesses that strive to meet this growing demand, peta2, PETA’s youth division, has awarded five companies in beauty-related categories in the eighth annual Libby Awards. “Libby” is for “liberation”—as in animal liberation.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics was named the Best Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Company, thanks to its bold colors, all of which are both cruelty-free and vegan. Sugarpill Cosmetics‘ Golidlux Loose Eyeshadow landed the award for Best Vegan Cosmetics Product, and Paul Mitchell‘s Super Skinny Serum, which can tame even the most unruly tresses, was named Best Vegan Hair Product.

The award for Best Vegan Bath and Body Product went to 100% Pure‘s delicious-smelling Yummy Ice Cream Mint Chocolate Bubble Bath. And Every Man Jack‘s Thickening Grooming Cream—a must for any dapper ‘do—landed the first-ever award for Best Vegan Dude Product, a new category this year.

“More than ever, young people want to know that their shampoo and makeup are cruelty-free—and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics and the other Libby winners are meeting this growing demand in exciting, creative ways,” says PETA Director of Youth Outreach and Campaigns Marta Holmberg. “All of peta2’s nominees prove that today’s market is bursting with personal-care products that are as trendy as they are kind to animals.”

Other nominees in the beauty categories included NYX Cosmetics and Physicians Formula as well as products from LUSH, Kiss My Face, Dr. Bronner’s, and more. Twenty-six Libby Awards will be given out this year, recognizing everything from the best animal-friendly clothing company to peta2’s favorite animal-friendly celebrities. Winners were chosen by peta2 based on several factors, including vote count, and each winner will receive a personalized certificate and yearlong bragging rights.
