A group of PETA members—led by a woman confined to a cage with her naked body painted like a tiger—will lead a protest outside Harrah’s Casino on Thursday, the opening day of notorious animal exhibitor Dirk Arthur’s big-cat act, “Wild Magic.”
When: Thursday, March 27, 12 noon
Where: Harrah’s Casino, corner of Virginia St. and E. Commercial Row, Reno
Despite learning from PETA that the U.S. Department of Agriculture cited Arthur in December at Harrah’s Laughlin for multiple violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act, issued him an official warning in January, and cited him again just last month for repeat violations—including for continuing to keep big cats in small, inadequate enclosures with unsafe, short fencing—Caesars Entertainment, which owns the Harrah’s casinos—continues to allow Arthur to perform.
“Dirk Arthur’s name is synonymous with breaking the law, placing the public in danger, and depriving big cats of legally-required space and exercise that’s needed for their well-being,” says PETA Foundation Deputy General Counsel Delcianna Winders. “PETA is calling on Caesars to give this animal abuser the boot—and on kind people to stay far away from any place that hosts him.”
Arthur’s December violations include the painful declawing of two tigers and a lion, which has been prohibited for nearly a decade.
