A Compassionate Business Award is on its way from PETA to Mooresville-based Lowe’s Companies Inc. in recognition of its generous donation of fencing materials, which will aid PETA’s vital work to unchain the countless dogs across North Carolina who are kept tethered outside 24/7.
Every year, PETA’s fieldworkers find thousands of neglected, dying, or dead dogs—forgotten, ignored, and without shade, drinkable water, or any other way to cool down (or stay warm in winter). Chained dogs are often deprived of veterinary care, exercise, companionship, or even a kind word and are left in isolation on the same few square feet of space day in and day out.
“With this charitable assistance from Lowe’s, PETA will be able to provide relief to dogs who would otherwise be forced to spend their entire lives languishing in isolation at the end of a chain,” says PETA Senior Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. “PETA thanks Lowe’s for this kind-hearted donation and hopes its compassion will inspire people everywhere to push for chaining bans in their communities.”
While PETA urges everyone to keep dogs indoors, the group’s field team—which serves low-income areas of rural Virginia and North Carolina—does everything possible to improve the welfare of dogs chained outside, including by delivering sturdy wooden doghouses, offering low- or no-cost spay/neuter surgeries, and providing flea treatment, food, treats, and toys.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
