Adoption is close to her heart! In honor of Valentine’s Day, PETA is unveiling a sweet new campaign starring television personality and animal protection advocate Leah Kateb and her beloved dog, Blue, looking fetching in a candy-heart necklace spelling out the word “Adopt.”

In an accompanying video spot, Kateb shares how she has fostered hundreds—yes, hundreds—of dogs; how Blue herself started as a foster until Kateb realized it was a forever thing between them; and how anyone looking for love should swipe right on a furry companion awaiting a home in a shelter—and kick harmful breeders to the curb.

“Adopting a pet instead of buying one saves lives and helps reduce the number of animals in shelters,” Kateb says. “Shelters are full of incredible pets just waiting for a loving home. When you adopt, you’re giving them a second chance and helping ease the burden on overwhelmed rescue organizations.” She adds, “With the devastation of the LA fires, so many pets need homes. Every adoption gives these animals a fresh start and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.”

For every animal bred, another individual waiting in a shelter loses their chance at finding a home. Breeding also endangers animals’ health, causing debilitating ailments such as hip dysplasia, blindness, deafness, heart issues, skin problems, and epilepsy. For those reasons (and over 70 million more), Kateb sets a boundary: “Seriously, ew…It’s time to DUMP your breeder!”

Kateb is part of a growing list of celebrities—including Tom Hardy, Chrishell Stause, Kathy Griffin, John Stamos, Ryan Eggold, Theo Rossi, and Cristin Milioti—who have teamed up with PETA to promote adoption.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
