The Love Carriage’s “Lady Amor,” an ornate, vintage-style electric carriage, will be available for free rides—for the first time—during Atlanta’s Juneteenth Festival hosted by ATL Committee at Adair Park II on Wednesday from 1 to 6 p.m.

Lady Amor will also take part in Saturday’s Juneteenth Atlanta Parade, which kicks off at 12 noon on Boulevard N.E., commencing on Auburn Avenue N.E. and continuing to 10th Street N.E.

PETA and Georgia Animals Rights and Protection are working together to get cruel and archaic horse-drawn carriages off the city’s streets, including by supporting The Love Carriage’s work to start operating Lady Amor downtown full time soon.

“The horse-drawn carriage industry literally works equines into the ground,” says PETA Director Ashley Byrne. “PETA applauds The Love Carriage for offering a fairy-tale carriage experience that spares horses extreme suffering and makes Atlanta a more humane place.”

Last summer, a critically injured horse used for carriage rides was dragged off an Atlanta street in agony. Horses are forced to toil in all weather extremes, dodge traffic, and pound the pavement day after grueling day. There are no laws preventing old, injured, or spent horses from being sent to slaughter once they’re no longer bringing in revenue.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment or abuse in any other way”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness.
