Diners on their way into Church’s Texas Chicken are in for an earful on Friday, when “Hell on Wheels”—PETA’s life-size, hyper-realistic chicken transport truck covered with images of real chickens crammed into crates on their way to slaughter—will bombard them with actual recorded sounds of the birds’ cries along with a subliminal message every 10 seconds suggesting that people go vegan.
When: Friday, April 19, 12 noon
Where: Outside Church’s Texas Chicken, 1401 Dr. Martin Luther King Dr., Little Rock
The vexatious vehicle’s arrival follows news that a bird flu outbreak is sweeping the nation and nearly 2 million chickens have been killed by Cal-Maine Foods Inc., which touts itself as the largest egg producer and distributor in the U.S.
“Behind every hot wing or bucket of fried chicken is a once-living, sensitive individual who was crammed onto a truck for a terrifying, miserable journey to their death,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s ‘Hell on Wheels’ truck is an appeal to anyone who eats chicken to remember that the meat and egg industries are cruel to birds and hazardous to human health and the only kind meal is a vegan one.”
The “Hell on Wheels” tour through Arkansas will also include stops in Hot Springs on Thursday, April 25, and Friday, April 26, and in Conway on Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone
and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness.
