Going the extra yard for chickens who want to keep their wings, PETA supporters are flocking to New Orleans for two vegan displays ahead of the Super Bowl: On Friday, they will set up a prop food stand at a busy downtown intersection where they’ll hawk fried eagle wings to make the point that on the biggest chicken wing consuming day of the year, it’s crazy to eat one bird species while protecting others. And on Sunday, the animal allies will hand out hundreds of delicious meat-free wings from local vegan eatery I-tal Garden outside Caesars Superdome, along with a ‘double doink dare’ to football fans to please go vegan on game day and beyond.
PETA will also appeal to tailgaters with a massive banner (below) that will be flown around the stadium in the hours leading up to the big game.

“Chickens are wonderful little birds, and they don’t want to die for a platter of watch party wings any more than any fan would,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s offense is on the field to encourage revelers to indulge in delicious vegan game day snacks that leave chickens in peace, not in pieces.”
Where: Eagle Wing Giveaway: At the intersection of St. Ann and Decatur Streets (near Jackson Square), New Orleans
When: Friday, February 7, 12 noon
Where: Vegan Wing Giveaway: Near Caesars Superdome, 1500 Sugar Bowl Dr., New Orleans
When: Sunday, February 9, 12 noon
Why: Chickens can distinguish between more than 100 faces of their own species, have full-color vision, and experience rapid eye movement sleep, which means they dream just like we do. But those used for meat are trucked in all weather extremes to slaughterhouses, where workers slit their throats on blood-soaked floors and scald many to death in de-feathering tanks.
