Because Starbucks agrees that animal-friendly vegan milks are better for the planet but insists on charging extra for them, PETA supporters will gather outside the chain’s Clematis Street location on Earth Day (April 22) to intercept would-be customers with free nitro cold brew mochas made with creamy oat milk donated by Rise Brewing Co. The action comes after nearly 150,000 PETA supporters asked Starbucks to end its vegan upcharge.
When: Friday, April 22, 11:30 a.m.
Where: Starbucks, 226 Clematis St., West Palm Beach
“Starbucks is milking customers who care about animals and the planet on Earth Day of all days,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Cruelty to cows aside, dairy is an environmental disaster, with its methane emissions and the destruction of forests for grazing land, so PETA is calling on the company to celebrate honestly by pricing vegan milks at or below the price of cow’s milk.”
PETA is commemorating Earth Day with vegan coffee drink giveaways outside additional Starbucks locations in Portland, Oregon; Denver; and several other cities.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
