FIT to Reveal ‘How to Make It in (Vegan) Fashion’

What: As the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) marks its fourth annual Sustainability Awareness Week, the school will welcome PETA for a special panel discussion for students: “How to Make It in (Vegan) Fashion,” moderated by model and activist Renee Peters.
When: Tuesday, February 28, 5:30 p.m.

The panel will feature five successful vegan designers, who will discuss how to make it as a sustainable designer, where to find high-quality vegan textiles, and why cruelty-free apparel is an unstoppable trend in today’s industry. The panelists include Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart (Vaute), Bianca Moran (SUSI Studio), Joshua Katcher (Brave GentleMan), Sydney Brown, and Sugandh Agrawal (GUNAS).
“There are so many innovative vegan options to choose from today, including pineapple leaf leather, microfiber made from recycled plastic bottles, Ultrasuede, down-alternative technology, and synthetic spider silk,” says PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews. “Designers don’t need to contribute to the horrific treatment of animals in order to be a success in the fashion world, which is why PETA is teaming up with FIT to showcase some of the best designers leading the way with sustainable vegan fabrics.”
PETA’s motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear.”
