As overnight temperatures continue to drop below freezing, hip-hop legend and actor Eve stars in a PETA billboard going up in her hometown of Philadelphia that proclaims, “Unchain Your Friends. Chained Dogs Suffer Every Day.”
The billboard is located in West Philadelphia on Lancaster Avenue, just west of N. 56th Street, facing east.
To make sure that Eve’s message reaches all of Philly, PETA is also running a 30-second TV spot throughout the week on WPSG-TV (CW) in which the Barbershop star calls footage of dogs who are chained outside in the freezing cold and pleading for affection the “saddest video I’ve ever seen.” She adds, “Keeping your dog outside doesn’t make you tough or cool—it just makes you a bully. Please bring your dogs inside and treat them as part of the family. And if you see a chained dog, please speak up. Because if not you, then who?”
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—receives numerous reports every year of dogs who have suffered and died after being chained and left outside 24/7. Animals have starved to death, died of hypothermia, and been left to rot on a chain.
Eve’s ads in Philadelphia are part of a nationwide ad blitz that includes billboards and TV spots in Baltimore; Chicago; Cleveland; Detroit; Norfolk, Virginia; Terre Haute, Indiana; Washington, D.C.; and Weldon, North Carolina. Eve is part of a growing list of celebrities—including Jhené Aiko, Kid Ink, P!nk, Mýa, TLC’s Chilli, Kesha, Sia, and many others—who have teamed up with PETA to promote kindness to animals.
