To sprinkle National Donut Day (June 7) with vegan flavor, PETA has concocted a list of the top eateries from across the U.S. that are dishing up the most delectable donuts without relying on eggs or dairy—and Mad City’s own Level 5 Donuts nabbed a spot on this super-sweet list. The pop-up vegan eatery—which supplies donuts to 17 area stores—offers fun flavors such as Birthday Cake, Blueberry Lemon, Boston Dream, Churro, and Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp.
“Level 5 Donuts is dishing up cruelty-free crullers of the highest caliber right in the heart of Madison,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “Every aglazeing bakery on PETA’s list proves that melt-in-your-mouth vegan donuts are jelly good to hens and cows as well as humans’ taste buds.”
In the egg and dairy industries, hens and female cows are exploited until their bodies break down and they’re sent to slaughter. Every person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals each year. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help those looking to make the switch.
Level 5 Donuts will receive a framed certificate from PETA along with bragging rights. Other winners include Cake Thieves Bakery & Eatery in San Antonio; Little Vessels Donut Co. in Honolulu; Bitchin’ Donuts in Albany, New York; Yellow Rose Vegan Bakery & Cafe in Maplewood, New Jersey; and Veg.Edible in Omaha, Nebraska.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
