Ahead of Father’s Day (June 16), a graphic, novel message from PETA is calling out dads who might be thinking about spending their special day dragging sentient fish from their underwater homes and suffocating them or gutting them while they’re still conscious. The appeal—which uses an eye-catching comic book–style design—is part of the group’s North American messaging blitz urging everyone to leave animals in peace and enjoy a cruelty-free holiday.

“Not only is it cruel to celebrate a family holiday by violently tearing animals away from their own families, it’s also absurd,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA urges dads everywhere to show their kids what compassion looks like by leaving fish alone on Father’s Day and every day.”

PETA’s billboard is located next to the Wolf River and within 2 miles of Bass Pro Shops and meat-centric eateries including Playita Mexicana and Cracker Barrel.

Each person who goes vegan saves the lives of nearly 200 animals—including aquatic ones—every year. To help get locals started, PETA offers a free vegan starter kit on its website.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
