PETA is preparing to crown this year’s “Sexiest Vegan Next Door“—and one Dallas local and aspiring model is vying for the title. Lori Harding beat out hundreds of other entrants from across the nation to advance to the final round of 10 male and 10 female contestants. Visitors to PETA.org can help PETA select the winners—one man and one woman—who will each receive a free vacation for two to Maui, Hawaii, courtesy of Humane Travel.
Account sales manager and lingerie stylist Lori Harding went vegan six months ago, after talking with her vegan friends—who also happen to be former slaughterhouse workers—about the cruelty of the meat industry. In addition to sharing the benefits of vegan eating with her family and coworkers, Harding steers clear of clothing and accessories made from animal skins and makes sure to buy only cruelty-free beauty products. A former stylist for Louis Vuitton, she removed all the brand’s products from her wardrobe after having learned that alligators are hacked apart for its handbags—and now, she counts longtime PETA pals Stella McCartney and Alicia Silverstone as her role models and recommends only vegan clothing brands to her clients. As an aspiring model, she also uses Instagram to share a pro-vegan and body-positive message with her followers.
“I went vegan because cows and pigs are no different from human beings when it comes to the ability to feel pain and fear,” she says. “We all come in different shapes and sizes, and everyone deserves love, respect, and to feel good—and that includes animals, who are the same as us in all the ways that matter.”
“Whether she’s endorsing cruelty-free clothing brands or sharing vegan tips on social media, Lori Harding never stops advocating for animals,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “All the finalists in PETA’s Sexiest Vegan contest prove that a clear conscience and a compassionate heart are the secret ingredients to sexiness.”
Voting to help PETA determine which finalists it should select as the winners ends at 12 noon EDT on May 14. PETA will select the winners based on several factors, including vote count. See the full contest details here. Winners will be notified and announced on May 21.
