In the days ahead of the first primary caucus of 2020, PETA’s “climate change cow”—who has chewed the cud with candidates from Joe Biden to Bill Weld—will take her “Go Vegan or We All Die” sign to candidates’ events throughout Iowa, beginning with Elizabeth Warren’s “Get Out the Caucus Rally” on Friday.

When:    Friday, January 31, 5:30 p.m.

Where:    Curate, 322 E. Court Ave., Des Moines

The “cow” will point out that eliminating meat and dairy is the most efficient way to combat the climate crisis, whose effects are already being felt in environmental catastrophes such as historic droughts, floods, and wildfires, including the ones in California and Australia.

“The dairy industry treats gentle cows as milk machines while spewing out contaminants that are destroying our planet,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s ‘cow’ is calling on candidates and voters to stop ignoring animal agriculture’s connection to catastrophic climate change before it’s too late.”

According to the United Nations, animal agriculture alone is responsible for nearly one-fifth of human-induced greenhouse-gas emissions.  A recent analysis concluded that cutting dairy milk consumption by 60% in Western countries is essential to reduce disastrous climate change.

PETA’s “climate change cow” will be traveling to candidates’ events in Iowa throughout the weekend.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”—opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview.

Note: PETA supports animal rights and opposes all forms of animal exploitation and informs the public on those issues. PETA does not directly or indirectly participate or intervene in any political campaign on behalf of or in opposition to any candidate for public office or any political party.
