Please see the following statement by PETA primate scientist Dr. Lisa Jones-Engel regarding the attempt by the city of Bainbridge, Georgia, to evade turning over discovery documents in the lawsuit filed by residents that calls the city to task for its violations of the state’s Open Meetings Act in approving a massive monkey-breeding facility that the residents oppose.
The city of Bainbridge’s despicable behavior surrounding the proposed monkey facility never ends. The city has continually tried to hide evidence of its wrongdoing, continually taken actions to harm taxpayers, and continually attacked residents for the mistakes it has made. We suggest that residents question the city as to why its attorney is also the bond counsel and, as such, is likely to pocket a considerable amount of money if Safer Human Medicine is allowed to build its monkey prison.
