Just in time for Valentine’s Day, PETA has selected the Top 10 Vegan Sweet Treats from restaurants and bakeries across the U.S., and Atlanta’s Cinnaholic secured a spot, thanks to its gourmet cinnamon rolls. Each of the eatery’s delicious dairy- and egg-free rolls can be personalized with a variety of signature frosting flavors and toppings, such as caramel frosting with raspberries and almonds and lemon frosting with blueberries and pie crumble.
“At Cinnaholic, diners can indulge their sweet tooth while being sweet to animals,” says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. “As PETA’s coast-to-coast list of decadent desserts proves, choosing vegan treats today is a piece of cake.”
Not only are vegan desserts free of saturated animal fat and cholesterol, they also spare animals immense suffering: In the dairy industry, calves are torn away from their mothers shortly after birth, and in the egg industry, parts of chickens’ beaks are cut off with a hot blade when they’re just a few days old.
Rounding out PETA’s list is the iconic Sublime Restaurant & Bar in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as well as Vegan Treats Bakery in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; Passion Flour Patisserie in Salt Lake City; Avalon International Breads in Detroit; My Vegan Sweet Tooth in Virginia Beach, Virginia; Strong Hearts Cafe in Syracuse, New York; Sweet Ritual in Austin, Texas; Little Pine in Los Angeles; and Back to Eden Bakery in Portland, Oregon. Each winner will receive a framed certificate.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any other way”—also offers free vegan Valentine’s Day dessert recipes on its website, along with a selection of sweet gifts from the PETA Catalog.
