Chicken Squeezies to Proclaim, ‘Let Birds Keep Their Wings,’ Ahead of Super Bowl

What: Just ahead of the Super Bowl, PETA supporters will descend on Dilworth Park on Thursday to pass out free chicken squeezie toys that read, “Let Birds Keep Their Wings: Go Vegan,” as well as vegan recipe booklets featuring delicious snacks such as spicy buffalo cauliflower and loaded nachos with cashew cheese. Supporters will also hold signs proclaiming, “Bench Cruelty: Go Vegan,” to encourage residents of the Philadelphia Eagles’ hometown to chow down on cruelty-free eats as they cheer on their team.

“The Super Bowl is no game for the chickens and other animals who are killed by the millions only to end up as football fans’ finger foods,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA’s chicken squeezie toys will hopefully inspire everyone to bypass the gameday wings in favor of mouthwatering vegan snacks.”
PETA (whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat”) notes that nearly 1.33 billion wings—or about 300 million birds—were consumed during last year’s Super Bowl alone. The vast majority of these animals spent their lives in filthy, crowded poultry sheds before being trucked to slaughterhouses, where their throats were slit.
