Once a PETA foe, Canada Goose is spreading its wings in the world of vegan fashion and is now the winner of a 2023 PETA Fashion Award for Coolest Warmest Down-Free Fashion for its cozy Carlyle Quilted Shirt Jacket made with innovative Tencel insulation, a super-soft biodegradable fiber.

“Canada Goose’s downright fabulous down-free winter jacket keeps people toasty while leaving vulnerable birds in peace,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “PETA is celebrating Canada Goose for its stylish vegan jacket and urges shoppers to choose only feather-free and animal-friendly fashion this winter.”
Other winners of 2023 PETA Fashion Awards include Gap for Overall Most Vegan-Friendly Company, Versace for Hottest Vegan Leather Product, Max Mara for Best Vegan Suede Staple, and Gucci for Best Luxury Product. H&M was deemed Villain of the Year for selling down, cashmere, and leather, and Reformation was called out as Greenwasher of the Year for touting its sustainability agenda while selling mostly animal-derived materials that actively harm the planet.
A recent PETA Asia investigation into a Vietnamese down supplier revealed that ducks’ throats were slit while they were still conscious and that the birds were seen moving for at least a minute afterward. PETA Asia also investigated “responsible” down farms in Russia, where a worker was seen stretching the necks of geese across a stump and repeatedly hacking at them with a dull axe while the birds shrieked and struggled.
PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”—opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview.
