Please see the following statement from PETA Vice President Dr. Alka Chandna regarding the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture citation against Lovelace Biomedical in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for leaving 54 caged beagles in temperatures of more than 85 degrees for more than eight hours, a violation of the federal Animal Welfare Act. The report noted, “Dogs [who] are hot may experience discomfort, lethargy or distress. Dogs with medical problems or under study may be especially vulnerable to the effects of hot temperatures.” A contract testing facility, Lovelace Biomedical imprisons, torments, and kills hundreds of dogs, monkeys, and other animals each year:

The callous lawbreakers at Lovelace Biomedical need more than a slap on the wrist. PETA strongly urges Albuquerque’s Animal Welfare Department and police to investigate and prosecute the facility for this latest incident—one of a string of similar violations that have occurred at Lovelace every summer for the last three years. Since this wretched facility refuses to abide by the law, dogs should be removed from it and it should be shut down.

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to experiment on”—points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness. For more information, please visit PETA.org or follow the group on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
