As Anheuser-Busch kicks off its “Bud Light Backyard Tour” private concert series downtown this evening, PETA supporters will surround the property with signs attached to balloons carrying the message “Budweiser Amputates Clydesdales’ Tailbones” to rooftop partygoers. As PETA recently revealed in a damning video exposé, Budweiser has been severing the horses’ tailbones—either with a scalpel or with a tight band that stops the blood supply to the tail, causing it to die and fall off—just so the Clydesdales will look a certain way when hitched to a beer wagon.
“Budweiser is full of hot air to claim that it cares about American values while chopping off horses’ tails,” says PETA Senior Vice President Kathy Guillermo. “Horses need their tails for balance and as a first line of defense against biting and disease-spreading insects, so PETA is calling on the company to end these painful mutilations now.”
