Jensen Beach, Fla.

On Friday afternoon, Jensen Beach resident Frank Zurawski made a horrific discovery in his fenced-in backyard: His beloved 5-year-old Chihuahua, Snow, was lying dead in a pool of blood. Someone had apparently entered Zurawski’s backyard on N.E. Barbara Drive and bludgeoned the dog to death.

Police have yet to make any arrests in connection with the incident, prompting PETA to offer a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime.

“The callousness of beating a terrified, helpless dog to death demonstrates a blatant disregard for life and desensitization to suffering,” says PETA Senior Director Colleen O’Brien. “PETA is urging anyone with information about this violent crime to come forward now, before anyone else gets hurt.”

PETA—whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way”—cautions families to keep an eye on animal companions when they’re outside and never leave them unattended in the backyard.

Anyone with information about this case should contact Detective Mathew Horton with the Martin County Sheriff’s Office at 772-320-4725.
