Just in time for cooler weather, a cozy package is en route to Selena Gomez from the Selenators at PETA. The actor, who currently stars in the comedy-mystery series Only Murders in the Building, has frequently been photographed wearing UGG boots made from sheepskin.
PETA sent Gomez a pair of the first-ever vegan UGG boots—just launched in collaboration with New York–based fashion brand Collina Strada, which crafted the animal-friendly shoes using sugarcane, TENCEL, and recycled polyester microfiber.
Along with the gift, PETA sent an appeal to the hitmaker to please love on gentle sheep by giving wool the boot in favor of luxurious and comfortable vegan options.
UGG’s launch of the new vegan boots comes after years of pressure from PETA urging the company to drop wool and shearling stolen from gentle sheep. Sheep are fun-loving, playful individuals who enjoy spending time with their families and friends. Like all animals, they are someone, not something, and deserve to be respected, not exploited for their wool and skin.
We hope Gomez loves our gift, and we’re thrilled that the new vegan UGGs have been a hit and that anyone can get their hands on a pair (before they sell out, at least).
You can speak up for animals who are exploited by the fashion industry by wearing only vegan materials. Check out PETA’s vegan shopping guide and urge UGG to ditch shearling, wool, and all other animal-derived materials:
