Cruelty-Free Face Masks for Glowing Skin

Published by PETA Staff.

To spend lots of money on treating yourself or not to treat yourself? That is not the question! Cruelty-free face masks available online allow you to indulge in luxury and self-care like an IG influencer while staying in line with your ethics. Swerve expensive salon facials where you have no control over which products are used and get face masks that weren’t tested on animals and contain no animal-derived ingredients instead—they often contain clay and charcoal to extract impurities, aloe and oils to hydrate, and herbal extracts and other plant-derived ingredients that act as astringents and diminish redness. Bye, chemicals cruelly tested on animals. 👋

It’s not hard to find beauty brands that refuse to pay for horrific tests on animals. (However, some cop out by selling animal-tested versions of their cruelty-free U.S. products in China, where experiments on animals are required.) So if you’re not keeping it cruelty-free, you’re doing it wrong. Use one of these humane, PETA-approved face masks to reveal your outer and inner beauty:

SHEET MASKS

We’re not sure if these were purposely crafted to help people attain the Michael Myers lewk, but the resemblance is uncanny—making sheet masks perfect for freaking out your roommates before stepping out to dazzle the public with your luminous skin. Très chic!

DIY FACE MASKS

Prefer to make your own mask? We commend you on your craftiness! You’ll be shocked by the skin-improving qualities of some foods, many of which you likely already have in your kitchen. Try hydrating avocado-banana and exfoliating strawberry-lemon face masks, and check out these other DIY beauty hacks while you’re at it.

FOOD FOR HEALTHY SKIN

Eating fruits and vegetables is one of the best ways to help maintain your youthful glow. Blueberries are high in antioxidants, which fight free radicals that cause wrinkles, and red grapes are high in resveratrol, which acts as an acne-fighting agent. The isoflavones in soybeans can reduce wrinkles, improve skin elasticity, increase collagen synthesis, and protect skin. Oranges and pomegranates are packed with vitamin C, which your body needs to produce collagen, a protein that keeps skin firm and fights the appearance of aging. Tomatoes have a ton of vitamin C and are rich in lycopene, an antioxidant that protects skin from sun damage (by eliminating free radicals caused by ultraviolet rays) and promotes circulatory health. Watermelon is a great source of lycopene, too. And never let anyone call you “basic” for eating avocado toast! Avocados contain vitamins A and E (which guard against UV rays and keep skin moisturized), glutathione (a powerful antioxidant), and NMN (a compound thought to have anti-aging effects).

Pro tip: Because of the hormones in dairy, it’s a huge contributor to acne, so wanting good skin is yet another good reason to avoid dairy-based milk, cheese, yogurt, and butter.
