Gone are the days of relying on just a plain splash of nondairy milk in your coffee for a sweet and creamy morning pick-me-up. We’ve put together a comprehensive guide to creating vegan coffee creamers that are smoother, creamier, and tastier than store-bought ones, which are usually packed with chemicals and cruelty. No matter what your taste, we’ve got the perfect creamer for you!
The Base:
Whip up one of these bases, depending on your preference for how thick or sweet you want your vegan coffee creamer to be. Then move down the list and follow the instructions for your favorite flavor. It’s that easy!
Condensed Coconut Milk (Sweet)
1 can full-fat coconut milk (try Thai Kitchen brand)
1/3 cup maple syrup
1/4–1 1/2 cups almond milk
- Bring the coconut milk to a low simmer in a small saucepan for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Add the maple syrup and continue to simmer for an additional 10 minutes.
- Mix in the almond milk until the desired consistency is reached. (I find that 1/2 to 3/4 cup is perfect for me!)
Makes 1 1/2 – 3 cups
Plain Coconut Milk (Rich and Creamy)
1 can full-fat coconut milk
- Heat the coconut milk in a small saucepan over Medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
Makes 1.5 cups
Almond Milk and Dates (Thin and Naturally Sweet)
2 cups almonds (or cashews), soaked overnight
10 dates
1 cup water (less if you want a thicker base)
- Blend all the ingredients together and strain through a cheesecloth.
Makes 2 cups
The Flavors
Pick a flavor below, then mix all the ingredients together, along with the base of your choice, and put in a jar or a container with a lid. Feel free to add more or less flavor, as desired. Shake well until mixed and refrigerate. Be sure to shake well before each use. Each creamer should keep in the refrigerator for 7 to 10 days.
