Gather ’round the dinner table along with the tens of millions of other people who have seen PETA’s Tofucken video. This granny has a truth bomb (and an F-bomb or two) to drop about the meat industry, and people can’t get enough.
As vulgar as she may seem, her language is nowhere near as ugly as the conditions on today’s industrialized farms, where turkeys, chickens, and ducks are crammed into ammonia-choked sheds by the thousands.
This Thanksgiving, give thanks without taking lives.
Every year in the U.S., almost 300 million turkeys are killed for their flesh. Virtually all of them spend their entire lives on factory farms, where they have no federal legal protection.
Chickens are arguably the most abused animals on the planet. In the U.S., approximately 9 billion of them are killed for their flesh each year, and 305 million hens are used for their eggs. The vast majority of these animals spend their lives in total confinement—from the moment they hatch until the day they’re killed.
And more than 31 million ducks are killed each year for their flesh. Animals who are meant to swim, play, and forage are deprived of the opportunity to perform this natural behavior when they’re crammed by the thousands into dark sheds with only wire, dirt, and feces to stand on. In these conditions, disease and filth spread quickly.
