Vegan Soup and Salad at Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes

A Buffet of Vegan Options at Sweet Tomatoes and Souplantation

Published by PETA Staff.

An all-you-can-eat buffet is a vegan’s dream, and Sweet Tomatoes, known as Souplantation in California, offers a sweet spread of vegan options to build the meal of your dreams. The chain even labels items as vegan, so when in doubt, look for the “VE” label. Follow these five easy steps to fill up your plate with veggie heaven:

Step 1

Build your salad! Load up on leafy greens, toss in protein-rich beans, and top it with olives, cucumbers, corn, and whatever else your hungry heart desires. Just to get a sense of how limitless the options are, take a peek at what’s available at the salad bar:

  • Black beans
  • Black olives
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Corn
  • Cucumber
  • Dill pickles
  • Garbanzo beans
  • Green bell peppers
  • Iceberg lettuce
  • Jalapeño peppers
  • Kidney beans
  • Mushrooms
  • Peas
  • Pepperoncini
  • Radishes
  • Red cabbage
  • Red onions
  • Romaine lettuce
  • Shredded carrots
  • Spinach
  • Spring mix
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Sweet pickles
  • Zucchini

Make it fancy by adding a blend of quinoa or some pasta:

  • Ancient Grains Quinoa Blend
  • Rotini Rainbow Pasta

Croutons are out, and crunchy tortilla strips are in—and vegan. Add those bad boys to get that next-level crunch.

Step 2

Dress up those veggies and don’t hold back—all these delightful dressings are vegan. If the veggies aren’t swimming in dressing, is it even a salad?

  • Balsamic vinegar
  • Fat-free Italian
  • French (creamy dressing)
  • House-made classic Greek
  • Olive oil
  • Red wine vinegar
  • Rice wine vinegar
  • Wonton Happiness

Step 3

Add some carbs to your plate:

  • Baked potato
  • Baked sweet potato
  • Multigrain bread
  • Sourdough bread
  • White rice (available at some locations)

The chain also carries Smart Balance Buttery Spread, which is perfectly paired on bread or melted inside a baked potato.

Step 4

Check out the soup—the restaurant rotates the hot-food menu frequently, but vegan soups are clearly labeled, so be on the lookout. The oyster crackers and crunchy tortilla strips go great on top of any soup of the day.

Pro tip: If you spot the Santa Fe Black Bean Chili, drizzle it over a baked potato.

Step 5

Do it all over again, since that’s what buffets are for, right?
