Popular coffee chain Starbucks announced even more animal-friendly news, just two months after ending its extra charge for nondairy milks. Now, compassionate customers can find a vegan food item on the lunch menu along with another drink that can be ordered without modifications.
The Spicy Falafel Pocket features a toasted lavash flatbread stuffed with chickpea-spinach falafel, creamy vegetable hummus, roasted red bell peppers, pickled onions, and a spicy herb chimichurri sauce. This Middle Eastern-inspired offering is perfect for an on-the-go lunch or afternoon snack. Dip it in a side of Avocado Spread or Chipotle Almond Bitchin’ Sauce for an extra kick.
The chain has offered other vegan food items in the past—including a chicken-friendly version of its sous vide egg bites made with Daring chicken—but this is the first warm lunch item that has been added to its permanent menu.
Starbucks also announced the new Brown Sugar Oatmilk Cortado alongside the new lunch item. This bold beverage features the chain’s beloved brown sugar syrup, espresso, and an equal amount of steamed oat milk.
We’re thrilled to try these new offerings and are hoping they’re a sign of even more to come in the new year—because ordering vegan at Starbucks is a super simple way to help animals used by the meat and dairy industries, while also being better for the planet and your health. Please, go vegan today and make a real difference for countless animals.
