Tethering/Chaining

Sec. 4-6. – Humane treatment.

(c) It is unlawful to keep a dog or any domestic animal (pet) on a leash, chain, tether, or any restraint within the city limits of Mountain Grove, Missouri as a means of confinement and restraint to property.

(d) Exceptions:

a. Tethering shall be allowed so that a dog, domestic animal (pet) can relieve itself, or on rare occasions for the owner to accomplish temporary tasks. When such tethering occurs, no dog, domestic animal, (pet) shall be tethered for longer than 120 minutes and no more than four times per day.

b. When tethered all dogs, domestic animals (pets) shall be connected by a non-choke type of collar and the tether shall be a minimum of ten feet in length. All pets shall able to move freely with no obstructions while tethered.

c. A dog, domestic animal (pet) shall have sufficient shelter when tethered as defined in section 4-8.

d. No dog, domestic animal (pet) shall be allowed to be tethered to a tree, deck post, or other constraining object that would cause the pet to get tangled up. All dogs, domestic animals (pets) shall able to move freely with no obstruction at all times while being tethered.
