Joan Jett Loves Animals and Rock ‘n’ Roll
Legendary musician Joan Jett has given her voice to animals for years, and her dedication to sharing the advantages of a meat-free diet is an inspiration to us all. PETA and animals are lucky to have Joan by our side. At South Florida’s most touted vegan establishment, Sublime, Joan unveiled her new ad and was honored for educating her fans about animal rights and her continued dedication to alleviating animal suffering. Punk rock icon and star of PETA’s “Canada’s Club Scene Sucks” campaign Iggy Pop presented Joan with the Nanci Alexander Activist Award (named after the founder of the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida, who is also a PETA President’s Circle member).
Animals on factory farms are crammed by the thousands into filthy, windowless sheds and confined to wire cages, gestation crates, barren dirt lots, and other cruel confinement systems. Cows, calves, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, and other animals are forced to endure extremely stressful conditions and fed drugs to keep them alive in these conditions, which would otherwise kill them. Most never see the light of day, feel grass under their feet, or know what it feels like to be free.
Joan attributes her great health and youthful appearance to her longtime vegetarian diet. In addition to the massive animal suffering cause by the meat industry, animal products have been linked to some of our nation’s biggest killers: heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and cancer.
Raising animals for food also damages the environment more than just about anything else that we do. Whether it’s the overuse of resources, climate change, massive water and air pollution, or soil erosion, raising animals for food is wreaking havoc on the Earth.
Joan Jett’s love for animals led her to give meat the boot, but she later discovered the health and environmental benefits as well. Watch her vegetarian testimonial and consider joining her in kicking the meat habit.
