Freestyle Over to the First Slope-Side All-Vegetarian Restaurant
Skiers and snowboarders hitting the slopes at Whistler Blackcomb in Whistler, British Columbia, now have a delicious new dining option: all-vegetarian restaurant Raven’s Nest, which has just netted the resort a PETA Proggy Award in the category of Vegan-Friendly Slope-Side Dining. PETA’s Proggy Awards (“Proggy” stands for “progress”) recognize animal-friendly achievements in commerce and culture.
Featuring a menu developed by vegetarian Executive Chef Wolfgang Sterr and Kristine Leise, the hot spot serves tasty, cruelty-free meals, including the delectable vegan beef and mushroom sandwich—topped with vegan Swiss—and the roasted pear, walnuts, and date salad, among many others.
“The menu at Raven’s Nest is a big win for all ski bunnies with tasty choices like a vegan meatball sub and an egg-free breakfast burrito,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “With cruelty-free foods so easy to find, there’s never been a better time to go vegan.”
Raven’s Nest also dishes up hearty soups with mouthwatering flavors such as Moroccan pea and yam, African peanut, and Thai red curry and vegetable. Among the delicious sandwiches featured is the vegan meatball sub, topped with rich tomato-herb sauce and vegan cheddar—not to be outdone by Raven’s signature vegan pasta, served with caramelized onions and vegan garlic bread.
Whistler Blackcomb will receive a framed certificate and a letter of congratulations from PETA.
