Video Footage Prompts Investigation, Charges Against Canada’s Marineland
Marineland in Canada has been charged with six new counts of animal abuse by the Ontario SPCA after an advocacy group alerted the agency to shocking footage said to have been recorded within the Niagara Falls facility, showing the inadequate care of land animals. These charges are in addition to five that the Ontario SPCA brought against Marineland in November 2016, including one for failing to provide captive black bears with adequate food and water.
According to reports, these new charges against Marineland include failing to meet designated standards of care for elk and deer. The video footage shared above, which, in part, prompted the Ontario SPCA’s investigation, alleges that “it was routine for animals to die each week.”
As its name suggests, Marineland also holds aquatic animals captive. And the pinnipeds, orca, and other marine animals there are kept in substandard and likely harmful conditions.
Watch as one former employee describes his memories of the daily suffering of pinnipeds there:
Steer clear of marine parks and shabby roadside tourist traps that exploit animals.
The tide of public opinion has turned. Compassionate people the world over now recognize that sensitive and inquisitive animals don’t belong locked up in tiny tanks at marine abusement parks or in barren pits at tourist traps along the highway. Vote with your feet and stay away: Refuse to give your business to places like Marineland, where animals’ well-being takes a back seat to profit.
Share these shocking videos with your friends and family members who may visit such places and let them know that all animals—from deer to walruses—suffer when they’re abused for entertainment.
