Missouri Mall Cancels Animal Giveaways!
Update (June 26, 2024): As you know, Mid Rivers Mall Carnival in St. Peters, Missouri, reportedly gave out goldfish as booth prizes. However, PETA just learned that mall management won’t be repeating this practice at any of the venue’s events! Thank you to everyone who spoke out against the live-animal giveaways and to the Mid Rivers Mall for making this compassionate decision.
Original post: Experts agree that fish are highly complex animals who have the same capacity to feel pain, fear, and stress as mammals do. They deserve better than to be doled out as trinkets. However, PETA has just learned that the Mid Rivers Mall Carnival—organized by Fun Time Shows and scheduled to run through June 23 in St. Peters, Missouri—is giving away goldfish as prizes to game booth attendees, in apparent violation of St. Peters’ ordinance (§) 205.020, which states, “No person shall give away any live animal, reptile, or bird as a prize for, or as an inducement to enter any contest, game, or other competition.” PETA asked local authorities to shut this booth down, but it’s reportedly still operating. These animals need your help now!
