Urge the Owners of Gator’s Grill & Spirits to End Their Distasteful Live-Caiman Exhibit
In February 2024, PETA urged Wally Day, Sherrie Day, and Carlos Ruiz—the owners of Gator’s Grill & Spirits in Burlington, Iowa—to release Allie, the live caiman exhibited in their restaurant to an accredited sanctuary and, until that happened, to improve the enclosure to ensure her welfare. They apparently ignored our request, their patrons’ concerns, and the animal’s welfare.
Allie remains imprisoned and on display in a barren glass tank, even though caimans are naturally shy and skittish, preferring to hide and avoid loud noises, bright lights, and commotion if given the opportunity. The cramped enclosure limits her ability to exercise or express other natural behaviors in water and on land. Exploiting caimans for entertainment is a form of speciesism—a human-supremacist worldview—and has no place at a restaurant or anywhere else.
Please contact the owners of Gator’s Grill & Spirits and urge them to release Allie to an accredited sanctuary.
