Tell Colorado Apartment Complex to End Squirrel Slaughter Now!

Distressed witnesses contacted PETA regarding a lethal squirrel-control initiative reportedly underway at The Marks Cherry Hills apartment complex in Englewood, Colorado. Reportedly, dozens of lethal traps have been set around the complex and numerous animals have died, including one who was allegedly not killed outright and instead was reportedly left screaming and struggling for more than a day in apparent pain and terror while pinned by the head in one of the traps. Killing these animals is not only cruel but also tears wild families apart and leaves orphaned young to starve. Furthermore, lethal initiatives simply don’t work to control squirrel populations and can instead cause a population boom.

PETA contacted the complex, urging management to drop lethal control methods in favor of tried-and-true humane alternatives, but there’s been no response and we’re told that the gruesome killing continues, so squirrels need you to speak up now! Please send a quick note and make a call to The Marks’ management team and the leadership of its parent company, urging them to ditch trapping and stick with humane squirrel-control methods that everyone, including the squirrels, can live with. Then forward this alert to everyone you know.

I was dismayed to learn that a contractor has reportedly been hired to install lethal squirrel traps at The Marks Cherry Hills apartment complex in Englewood, Colorado. Reportedly, dozens of squirrels have been killed, including one who was allegedly not killed outright and instead was reportedly left screaming and struggling for more than a day in apparent pain and terror while pinned by the head in one of the traps. Not only is killing these animals cruel, it also won’t work to control the squirrel population. Killing or otherwise removing wildlife will actually backfire, since the breeding of remaining animals will simply accelerate due to the resultant spike in the food supply while newcomers inevitably arrive for the still-available resources so long as areas remain attractive and accessible, with overall populations then increasing.

Please stop trapping squirrels and instead embrace a nonlethal approach that involves making the area unattractive via the use of deterrents and preventing entry into buildings and crawl spaces by repairing or sealing entry points.
