Canadians: Sign the Petition to Formally Recognize Animal Sentience

Under current Canadian law, animals are classified as nothing more than property. But we have a unique opportunity to change this by petitioning the Parliament of Canada to formally recognize animals as sentient.

Elephants and chimpanzees mourn and shed tears if a member of their family dies. Mother cows will walk for miles in search of their stolen babies, and rats will put themselves in harm’s way to help other rats. Every animal is someone, and legally acknowledging that animals are sentient individuals, rather than property, is a critical step in establishing their legal rights.

By recognizing animals as sentient beings, Canada would join 32 other countries—including Australia, Chile, New Zealand, Switzerland, and the U.K.—that have already taken this important step forward.

Please help create a more compassionate society that values the lives and rights of all living, feeling beings: Click the button below to sign Petition e-5114 before November 10, 2024.

After signing the petition, please share this alert with other residents of Canada and ask them to join you in taking action!
