Birds No Longer Trapped at New York Store!
Update (July 22, 2024): As we reported previously, the DII Deals & Discounts store at 4086 Broadway in New York City was installing chicken wire fencing underneath its awning while entombing birds and their nests in the process. PETA has just confirmed that this business is now working with a wildlife rehabber who is ensuring that any birds trapped behind the fencing are carefully freed. We appreciate the store’s compassionate decision and thank everyone who spoke out for these animals!
Original post:
Pigeons are reportedly being trapped behind chicken wire fencing apparently being installed beneath the awning at the DII Deals & Discounts store at 4086 Broadway in New York City. According to sources nearby, several pigeons are currently in the rafters and at least one baby pigeon can be heard vocalizing. A PETA caseworker spoke to the manager, who told us that the company it hired has assured him that no birds or nests are present, but our complainant sees pigeons behind the fencing that is currently being installed and the company is moving forward with enclosing the space anyway. If these birds or any nests remain, the animals will not be able to escape and will likely suffer horribly as they slowly succumb to stress, starvation, or dehydration.
Please call the store manager and urge him to immediately stop the installation of this chicken wire fencing, in order to prevent tragedy! Tell management that it can install anti-roosting products such as bird spikes, slides, and coils or employ scare tactics such as sonic devices and motion-activated lights along with regularly rotated visual products such as Daddi Long Legs, predator effigies, and Mylar streamers and/or flags, all of which are low- or zero maintenance and will further deter birds.
